More details about each step are below:
To start, you will need to enter a project name. This will allow you to save the answers and the results of one remodel or move scenario. After you review the results of your first project, try creating other projects with different answers to see how the costs and the remodel or move recommendations change. Comparing the different scenarios is a great way to see how changes in your remodeling plans, for example, can affect the cost of the remodel as well as the remodel or move recommendation. You may create and store up to 20 projects for three months.
The second step asks you 11 general questions about your present home and the house you would like to move to. The Remodel or Move Calculator will then use your responses to provide you with recommendations which are just right for you.
The third step is to calculate the cost to remodel. The Remodel or Move Calculator asks you 20 questions about your remodel preferences. Using your responses and the cost of labor where you live, the Calculator provides you with a low and high estimate of the cost to remodel. This information is saved under a project name that you assign. You can also go back and change any of your answers at any time.
The fourth step is to calculate the cost to move. The Remodel or Move Calculator asks you 7 questions about your move preferences and about your current home. Using your responses, the Calculator calculates the cost to move. This information is saved under the same project name with your remodel information from step #2.
The fifth step is to determine your "gut feeling" toward both remodeling and moving. Your feelings about your current home, neighborhood and the remodeling process are as important as the costs of your options in determining what is best for you. This step determines your preferences for remodeling and moving by asking 10 questions that will be used to calculate your "gut feeling". This information is saved under the same project name with your remodel and move information from steps #2 and #3.
The sixth and final step is to review the cost estimates and the remodel or move recommendation based on the answers you provided. At this point you can go back to any section of the Calculator and change your responses, which may change the recommendation from the Remodel or Move Calculator.
You can also save this particular Remodel or Move project and create a new project and answer the questions differently to compare the costs and recommendations between two different scenarios.
