Bathroom Makeover #3 The Biggest One Yet!

Bathroom Makeover #3 the Biggest One Yet!

Hello from Italy, I’m thrilled to finally share our latest bathroom renovation with you after battling intermittent WiFi for the past five days. The beauty of this Italian landscape is a welcome distraction from my blogging woes. As you know, we’ve been on a roll with our bathroom makeovers this year; we started with our master bathroom over New Year’s weekend, followed by our guest bathroom in February, and now it’s time to reveal the final piece – our upstairs bathroom makeover.

A little background: when we moved into our home, the upstairs bathroom was in dire need of a facelift. The previous owners had attempted some DIY fixes, including a botched caulking job that left the space looking rather uninviting. Fast forward to today, and I’m excited to share the stunning transformation with you. Gone is the tan color scheme and white linoleum floor that was hiding water damage on the subfloor.

It took us a couple of months longer than expected to get everything just right, but it was worth the extra effort.

In a clever move, we opted to maintain visual continuity across spaces by selecting the same paint hue for both the main living area and the adjacent guest bathroom. Specifically, we chose the Sea Salt shade from Sherwin Williams, which we color-matched with Behr Marquee’s rendition of this popular hue. This subtle yet effective design choice adds a touch of harmony to our home.

After, guys!! After!!!

After, guys!! After!!!

Our plate is certainly full with numerous tasks and projects underway. To give you a better idea of what’s on our radar, let me walk you through some of the key items we’re currently focusing on.

Bathroom Makeover Checklist

After removing the old floor, I installed a new subfloor and laid down vinyl – a decision I wouldn’t hesitate to make again. The ease of installation made it a breeze. Meanwhile, I tackled the task of re-installing the toilet, which was no small feat. The walls got a fresh coat of Sea Salt by SW, while new trim was installed and caulked into place.

The vanity received a new layer of paint in Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams, perfectly matched with Behr Marquee, along with some stylish new hardware. Next up, I installed a brand new bathroom sink complete with a modern faucet. For added visual appeal, I put in place a new backsplash and grouted it seamlessly. In a creative touch, I crafted a mirror frame to attach to the existing mirror – a DIY project that’s been well-received.

The final touches included swapping out the light fixture above the mirror for an updated look, and finally, I gave the space a complete makeover to bring everything together.

That Big Shelf Thing

That Big Shelf Thing

I’m quite sure you’ve noticed the prominent shelving unit above our toilet. This particular piece was sourced from Hobby Lobby, and I’m thrilled with its triple impact – visually filling the space, offering decorative flair, and providing functional storage. As we’re expecting to welcome some little ones in the future, we’ll be able to utilize the baskets for storing bath toys and other essentials.

Following the installation of the dark metal shelf, my attention turned to creating a cohesive look in the bathroom by introducing matching hardware on our sink. A serendipitous discovery led us to a Kohler sink on OfferUp, secured at approximately 80% of its original value. Alternatively, you can find a near-identical model on Amazon.

And there you have it – a few close-ups of the remaining decor details. I’m thrilled to share this makeover process with you, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the before-and-after photos as much as I have. If you have any questions or need further clarification on any aspect of the project, please don’t hesitate to reach out in the comments section below.

On a personal note, I’ll be taking a short break from blogging for the next week and a half, but I’ll still be active on Instagram, where I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of our upcoming project. Let’s just say it involves shiplap.
