Can a cell phone recover from water damage?

In some cases, it is possible for a cell phone to recover from water damage. Depending on the extent of the damage, it is typically possible to repair some parts of the device with specialized repair shops.

The phone may be able to be revived with a new battery, LCD screen and motherboard. If the phone has been submerged in water and remains unresponsive, it might still be salvageable by a professional technician.

Some basic tips for cell phones that have met water damage, are to turn it off immediately, remove the battery and SIM card, and to keep it in a container of uncooked rice, as this could absorb the moisture.

However, if some parts have corroded or the damage is severe, then the phone may be beyond recovery.

What are the chances of a phone working after water damage?

The chances of a phone working after water damage really depend on a few factors. If the phone was completely submerged for a long period of time, or damaged by salt water, the chances of a successful repair are quite low.

However, if the phone was exposed to a small amount of water, especially freshwater, the chances are much higher.

The most important thing to do when a phone gets water damaged is to turn it off immediately and remove the battery (if possible). This will prevent any further damage from occurring within the phone.

Then, you can rinse the phone off with clean water and use a cloth to soak up as much water from the phone and battery compartment as possible. It’s very important to do this as soon as the phone is exposed to the water, as doing it too late may cause further damage.

Afterwards, it’s recommended to place the phone in a bowl of uncooked rice or silica gel packets for at least 24 hours. This will absorb any remaining moisture and reduce the chances of corrosion occurring.

After this, you can try turning the phone back on to see if it works. If the phone turns on, it may still have some issues such as a lower battery life or corrupted apps and data. In this case, you can either try to fix the phone on your own or take it to a professional.

It’s important to remember that water damage can cause permanent damage to phones, so the chances of a successful repair are not very high. If the phone doesn’t turn on at all, it is probably best to just buy a new one.
