Diy Fall Tablescape And Decor

As the air cools down and the leaves start to fall, my enthusiasm for fall festivities only grows stronger – even in the scorching heat of Arizona I took matters into my own hands (and strapped Griffin to my back) to bring out our fall decor from storage. A necessary precaution included inspecting each box with a blacklight to ensure no unwanted desert critters had taken up residence. The effort was well worth it, as our home now radiates the cozy warmth of the season.

To create a warm and inviting fall display, you’ll need a few key items. Start with a cozy blanket, scarf to add texture and color to your table setting. You can find similar ones at IKEA or on Amazon. For the centerpiece, gather white lanterns from IKEA (or Amazon), wooden rounds from local craft stores or online retailers like Amazon, eucalyptus leaves for a pop of greenery, cotton stem balls in autumnal hues, and Corelle dinnerware to add a touch of rustic elegance.

Don’t forget to incorporate fall pumpkins – I sourced mine at Sprouts Farmers Market but you can likely find them locally as well. For added depth, consider incorporating fall foliage and acorns from craft stores like Hobby Lobby or local vintage shows for unique coasters.

A New Mindset for Fall Decorating

A New Mindset for Fall Decorating

As we settled into our new home, I felt like the 2300 sq ft space was begging for some serious decoration. The blank canvas left me feeling uninspired. Over the years, however, I’ve developed a stash of seasonal decor that can hold its own against my existing pieces. This year, instead of scattering decorations haphazardly, I opted to focus on a select few areas and concentrate my efforts in the dining area. I cleared everything out, giving myself a clean slate from which to work.

It was a game-changer. Without the distractions of prior decor, I could craft a cohesive look that truly showcased my personal style. I homed in on the kitchen table, a couple of side tables nearby, and let my creativity shine.

Decorating Tip: Clear off the surface completely before you start decorating.

As I was designing my fall tablescape, I turned to Cherished Bliss for inspiration. Their rustic yet elegant setup caught my attention, particularly the use of a small blanket on the table. Unbeknownst to me at the time, they also incorporated white place settings and wood rounds – a delightful coincidence. To create this visually appealing arrangement, I kept the following key elements in mind: Firstly, varying heights helped guide the viewer’s eye through the table.

The combination of low-lying pumpkins, elevated glass vases, and varying heights on the wood rounds created a sense of visual interest. Next, fabric added warmth and coziness to the setting; I opted for a blanket scarf, which not only provided an affordable alternative to throw blankets but also offered the perfect size for my tablescape. To keep the atmosphere feeling fresh, I included greenery – whether real or faux, it made all the difference.

The verdant accents brought a touch of serenity to the arrangement. Lastly, white accents provided a striking contrast against the earthy tones of the wood table and plaid blanket. The cotton lantern, pumpkins, and dinnerware added a pop of brightness, making the entire tablescape come alive in a surprising twist: my recent decision to switch from a full dishware set to simple, white Corelle has been a game-changer.

Despite any initial reservations about its perceived ‘cheapness,’ I’ve found it to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Not only does it stay looking nice, but it’s also easy to replace if needed – a bonus for any holiday or special occasion.

In addition to the centerpiece, I designed two other tablescapes in our dining room. By confining my fall decor to a single space, I found it easier to generate a strong sense of autumnal ambiance. The result is a visually appealing and cohesive display that exudes crisp fall feels. To achieve this aesthetic, I adhered to the same guidelines: varying heights, incorporating fabric, adding greenery, and introducing white elements. The stacked signs are another delightful touch.

I crafted them last year and later shared a simple tutorial on how to create your own using 2x4s.

I discovered that decorating a limited number of spaces with a generous amount of fall decor can be surprisingly effective. In fact, I found that focusing on just a few areas created a more streamlined and effortless look compared to scattering decorations throughout an entire space. The simplicity was quite appealing.
