How do I find old friends on Steam?

Finding old friends on Steam can be a challenge if you don’t know where to start looking. However, there are some helpful methods that can make the process much easier.

The first step is to make sure you have your old friend’s Steam username or email address. If you don’t have this information then you’ll need to do a little extra digging. You can look through profiles of mutual friends who you still have contact with, or search through the Steam discussion forums, as the user may have posted at some point.

Once you have your friend’s username or email address, you can use it to search for them. You can do this in the “People” section of the Steam Client. Simply click on the “People” tab, enter the username or email address that you have, and see if the user exists in Steam’s database.

If it does, then you should be able to add your friend to your Steam friends list and send him or her an invitation.

If the username or email address is associated with an inactive Steam account, then you may be out of luck and the user may not be contactable. In this case, you can try searching for their name or other identifying information in popular social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter.

Additionally, you may be able to find contact information on gaming forums, fan sites, or other websites that the user may have been active on. With the advances of search engine technology and social media, it is possible to track down old friends quite easily.

Where does Steam save data?

Steam typically saves data in two locations: its installation directory, and user-specific game save directories.

Steam’s installation directory typically resides within the Program Files folder of the users’ hard drive. Depending on the user’s operating system, the exact location of this folder can vary. For example, in Windows 7 and earlier, the location is often C:\Program Files\Steam, while in Windows 8 and 10, it’s located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.

Within this folder, users can find main files related to the installation and running of Steam itself, such as core files and program configuration settings.

User-specific game save directory locations also vary depending on the operating system. In Windows, user data is stored within the folder C:\users\username\Documents\My Games, where “username” is substituted with the name of the user.

Within this folder, users will find folders related to each of their installed games, and within these individual folders are game specific config files, save games, and other data related to the game.

On Mac OS X systems, Steam games are typically located in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam, while user-specific game save data is located in ~/Documents/My Games.

On Linux systems, games are located in the ~/.steam/steam directory, while user-specific game save data is typically located in ~/.local/share/steam/steamapps.

What happens if you uninstall a paid game on Steam?

If you uninstall a paid game on Steam, you are still able to redownload and install it without repurchasing it. Once you purchase a game on Steam, it is permanently attached to your account. This means that any time you want to install the game in the future, simply go to your library, click on the game, and then select the ‘install’ option.
