Guest Bathroom Makeover DIY Checklist

Before diving into more photos, let’s take a moment to recap the exciting upgrades Andrew and I tackled during this renovation. From fresh paint to new fixtures, every detail contributed to a cohesive and modern look. We started by painting the walls with Sherwin Williams’ ‘Sea Salt’ color, carefully matching it to Behr Marquee for a seamless finish. This upgrade set the tone for the rest of the room.

Next, we replaced the old vanity with a new one from OfferUp, saving around 67% compared to buying it at Home Depot. To ensure water wouldn’t seep into tight spaces, we added guard pieces to the bottom and left sides. The faucet was another great find on OfferUp, where we saved approximately 60%. The new fixture brought a touch of sophistication to the space. One of our biggest challenges was installing a tiled backsplash – it was a first for both of us!

But the end result was well worth the effort. To complete the look, we added new baseboard, opting for a taller and cleaner design compared to our previous setup. A stylish light fixture from OfferUp (with a 40% discount) and a beautiful mirror from Tuesday Morning rounded out the updates. Finally, we gave the space a fresh coat of decor, tying everything together.

The installation of the backsplash presented an intriguing challenge, as neither my partner nor I had undertaken this task before. The learning curve was steeper than anticipated, but our deliberation led us to select one of two options from The Home Depot. We opted for the left-hand choice, opting to maintain consistency with the bathroom’s understated theme, which we felt was a wise decision.

As I stood in front of our newly installed faucet, an unexpected sense of glee washed over me. The design, reminiscent of a mini-hose for hand washing, had piqued my curiosity. We acquired this unique piece from OfferUp, but those seeking a similar experience can find alternatives on Amazon.

Before diving into bathroom decor purchases, I took some inspiration from Pinterest to guide my decisions. A particular shelf with a hanging bar for a hand towel caught my attention at Hobby Lobby – it was the perfect solution for utilizing this space. If you’re unable to find it at Hobby Lobby, Etsy offers similar options.

I was thrilled about the idea of having an extra toilet paper stash discreetly stored behind the toilet, ensuring that any unexpected guests wouldn’t be left in an awkward situation. To achieve this look, I discovered a wire basket from Michael’s Spring 2017 collection – although availability is uncertain, Hobby Lobby typically carries a variety of cute baskets and may have something similar. These little details can make all the difference in creating a functional yet stylish bathroom.

The bathroom renovation features a mix of locally sourced and online finds to create a unique blend of styles. For instance, the faucet has a similar design to one purchased locally, while the wall shelf with hanging rod was discovered on Etsy or Hobby Lobby. A budget-friendly mirror option can be found at Tuesday Morning or a comparable store. The toilet paper basket adds a touch of elegance from Michael’s, with similar designs available elsewhere.

Metal decor items like ampersands can be sourced from Hobby Lobby or Etsy, and additional shelves and wall decor were also found at Hobby Lobby. To complete the look, a hand towel was purchased at Kohl’s.
