Why did Facebook remove the view as feature?

Facebook removed the “View As” feature on their platform in order to prevent people from exploiting the feature to gain access to other people’s personal information. This feature allowed users to view their own Facebook profile as if they were someone else.

In July 2018, Facebook revealed that attackers exploited the “View As” feature to gain access to the accounts of approximately 50 million users. Their investigation determined that the attackers were able to use it to gain access to tokens used to log into other people’s accounts.

These tokens are what enable users to stay logged in to their accounts across different devices.

By removing the “View As” feature, Facebook believes that it is reducing the potential for future malicious attacks. They also believe that the feature was not very popular or heavily used, making the deletion an easy decision.

For users who were relying on the “View As” feature to show select people their Facebook page, Facebook recommends adjusting their profile and post settings so that only desired people can view the content they are sharing.

This way, users can have the control they desire without putting their personal information at risk of being exploited.

Why can’t I do view as on Facebook?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to do a ‘View As’ on Facebook anymore. This was a feature that allowed people to view their profile as it would appear to others, however, Facebook disabled this feature in 2019 due to security concerns related to a flaw that was discovered in this feature.

Facebook noted that this flaw could have been used by malicious actors to gain access to user accounts and view private information, including contact and personal information. In order to keep user accounts and data secure, Facebook had to take the necessary action and disable ‘View As’.

Unfortunately, the feature is no longer available and users can no longer view their profiles as it would appear to other people.

Facebook uses an algorithm to determine the six friends that you see when viewing someone’s profile. This algorithm takes into account a variety of factors such as mutual friends, shared interests, and frequency of interaction.
