How do you deal with liking someone you can’t have?

It can be difficult to have feelings for someone you can’t have, especially if those feelings are strong. When this happens, it’s important to remember that it’s ok to feel however you do, and to really allow yourself to feel those emotions.

Acknowledging and honoring your feelings is the first step to learning how to deal with your situation.

Once you have accepted and embraced your feelings, take some time to examine why you have these feelings. Ask yourself if it’s because this person reflects qualities or characteristics that you would like in yourself or if it’s because you’re longing for something more in your life that this person represents.

Once you understand the why, it can be helpful to look for other ways to find fulfillment of this need or desire.

If that doesn’t offer enough comfort, it may be beneficial to speak to someone about your experience. Talking about how you feel can be helpful in regulating these emotions and exploring coping strategies.

Lastly, practice self-care and focus on cultivating other meaningful relationships and activities to ensure that your emotional and social needs are being met as fully as possible.
