What happened to Flymo?

Flymo is a British company that was founded in 1964 and has been a leading brand in the lawn care industry for more than 50 years. Although the company is still in existence today, the Flymo brand has slowly been taken over by the Swedish tool manufacturer Husqvarna in recent years.

In 1995, Husqvarna acquired the British trademark for Flymo and began manufacturing and marketing electric lawnmowers under the Flymo brand. Husqvarna started restructuring the brand in the early 2000s and Flymo was broken off as its own separate business unit with its own production facilities and research and development efforts.

By 2019, Flymo was known solely as the ‘Easy’ product range, with the brand being used as an abbreviation to refer to the company’s new name, Husqvarna Gardena Group. As a result of this rebranding, all Flymo products were phased out and rebranded as Gardena products.

Although Flymo products are no longer available, the legacy of the Flymo brand still lives on with many Husqvarna products including their own rotary and hover mowers. Flymo’s extensive history will also still be remembered as a pioneering brand which made yard work easier for generations of gardeners, having been a major player in lawn care and garden tools for fifty years.

Can you use a Flymo without spacers?

Yes, a Flymo can be used without the use of spacers. The Flymo should come with a blade guard that snaps on, which is designed to keep the blade from directly contacting any surface, so using a spacer is not necessary.

However, it is important to remember to snap the guard back on when the machine is not in use, as the guard helps to protect users from directly coming into contact with the blade. Additionally, when using the Flymo without spacers, it is important to limit the cutting height to 3 cm or below so that the Flymo is able to efficiently collect the clippings.

Otherwise, the clippings may not get collected in the collection box.
