What is the difference between photo stream and camera roll?

The main difference between Photo Stream and Camera Roll is that Photo Stream is a cloud-based service that stores your photos for a limited amount of time (30 days on iOS devices and Apple TV, and 1 year on Mac) while Camera Roll stores your photos on your device’s internal memory.

Photo Stream allows you to share photos with other devices that are connected to your iCloud account, while Camera Roll stores the photos only on the device they were taken on. Photo Stream will automatically sync between Apple devices over Wi-Fi, but Camera Roll does not.

Photo Stream is the easiest method for sharing photos between Apple devices, because it’s automatically linked to your iCloud account and can be accessed by anyone else with an iCloud account. On the other hand, Camera Roll allows you to take full control of your photos, since they are only stored on the device they were taken on.

This allows you to keep photos private, or simply organize them in whatever way you choose.
