What is the minimum amount of water per day to survive?

The amount of water a person needs to consume daily in order to stay alive and healthy depends on various factors, including activity level, environment and health status. On average, it’s recommended that adults drink eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters or half a gallon, of water per day to prevent dehydration.

This equals to around 2.7 liters per day. However, the exact amount of water needed depends on a person’s individual needs. Those who are more active may need even more water to replace the water lost through sweat and other activities.

In cases of extreme heat or exercise, it’s recommended you drink 1-2 liters of water extra. Additionally, people with certain health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, may need to drink more water to help manage their conditions.

It’s important to stay properly hydrated, but it is also important to not over hydrate as it can lead to hyponatremia, a potentially serious condition.
