When did HTV end?

The last broadcast of Hong Kong Television Network (HTV) was in April 2015. HTV was launched in 1992 and was one of the earliest pay-per-view cable services in Hong Kong. It had been in operation for 23 years, providing viewers with a variety of international and local channels, pay-per-view events, and regional news coverage.

The closure of HTV was part of the change in the cable TV market as the use of digital broadcasting technology made it possible to provide a bigger variety of services. This caused the number of local television broadcasters to decline as the digital broadcasting market became more competitive.

HTV’s decision to close was met with disappointment from many in the community and even resistance from viewers who wanted to keep using the service, as they were accustomed to the variety and reliability of the original HTV service.

However, in response to the changing market, in March 2015 HTV announced that it will be ending its services by April. Subscribers were given the option of switching to other services such as Cable TV, CTV, and UBC.

Despite being gone for nearly six years, the legacy of HTV lives on and is still remembered by many. From its regional news programs to its pay-per-view events, HTV provided a unique and innovative service to viewers in Hong Kong and made a lasting impact on the media landscape.
