Why can’t I create folders in Gmail app?

Unfortunately, you cannot create folders in the Gmail app due to a limitation of the application. The Gmail app was designed to work exclusively with Gmail labels, so while you can organize your emails and attachments using labels, there is not a way to create folders and move emails into them.

The functionality to create folders and move emails into them is only available in the desktop version of Gmail.

It is possible to create “Smart Labels” in the Gmail app, which can help organize messages, but they do not provide exactly the same functionality as folders in the desktop version. Smart Labels group emails together by criteria you define and can help maintain an organized inbox, but they cannot be used to move emails into specific locations, as you would with folders.

The functionality to create folders and move emails into them is a feature in the desktop version of Gmail, but it is not available in the mobile app. We hope that the ability to create folders in the Gmail app will be added in the future to give users more control over how their emails are organized.
